Nursing Scholarship

A Scholarship for Nursing Students in Acadiana

Honoring a Legacy.
Supporting the Next Generation of Care.

The Frem F. Boustany, Jr., MD Memorial Nursing Scholarship was established to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Frem Boustany, a founding board member of Foundation for Wellness, formerly Woman’s Foundation, respected physician, and visionary leader who helped shape healthcare in Acadiana.

In the late 1970s, Dr. Boustany and a group of local physicians recognized a critical need for specialized women’s healthcare in the region. Through their leadership and a generous land donation from the Boustany family, what would become Women’s and Children’s Hospital was brought to life, creating lasting impacts for generations of families across Acadiana.

The Foundation established this scholarship following Dr. Boustany’s passing in 1988 as a lasting tribute to his commitment to care, service, and community. The first scholarships were awarded in 1989, and the program has continued to support nursing students ever since.

A Commitment That Continues

For more than three decades, this scholarship has reflected a simple but powerful belief: strong healthcare starts with strong people.

Originally funded through the Foundation’s operating budget, the program was later permanently endowed for long-term sustainability. Even in times of financial challenge, the commitment has never wavered when funding gaps emerged. Dr. Boustany’s family stepped forward to ensure scholarships could continue uninterrupted.

To date, dozens of nursing students across Acadiana have received support through this scholarship and its auxiliary funds, helping them complete their education and step into a profession grounded in compassion, skill, and service.

We are proud to have awarded students at the following schools.
