The Too Good program is structured into three units, each focusing on important aspects of personal and social development. Unit one emphasizes core social-emotional skills such as goal setting, responsible decision making, emotional management, effective communication, and building healthy relationships. Unit two provides education on substance use and its effects, including alcohol, nicotine, prescription drugs, and street drugs. The third unit addresses violence prevention, teaching skills such as emotion management, communication, peer pressure refusal, and conflict resolution.
Students practice setting reachable goals, making responsible decisions, and communicating effectively with pro-social peers in fun, interactive games, activities, and role-play. They are encouraged to consider the consequences of their actions before making decisions to avoid negative consequences and study various scenarios and work together to think of alternative affirmative choices to produce positive outcomes. Students share ways to identify and manage their emotions in healthy ways so they can stay calm and not become overwhelmed by them. Students discuss the role of reporting bullying situations for the benefit and safety of everyone involved and practice peaceful methods to manage bullying situations in a healthy way for the bully, the target, and the witnesses.
