FOUNDATION FOR WELLNESS

About Us

We’re your accredited CME provider to educate healthcare professionals, and your family’s source for research-based facts and strategies to help guide you and your children in confidence.

Our Story

Foundation for Wellness (formerly Woman’s Foundation Inc.) has long served Acadiana as a leader in the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of  women, newborn infants, and children. Originally founded as Woman’s Hospital of Acadiana, Inc. in 1980 as the driving force to promote women’s health needs,  we later began operations with the purpose of supporting women, children,  and the medical professionals who provide their care and treatment. Today we’ve expanded our services to support local families, healthcare professionals, nursing students and nonprofit organizations with a variety of resources,  educational and funding initiatives, all in the pursuit of improving wellness across our community.

By hosting continuing educational activities through in-person, virtual, and  hybrid platforms, we’ve provided more than 2,200 credit hours to 51,000+ medical and behavioral healthcare professionals in Louisiana and the  surrounding states. We’ve also provided $224,000 in scholarships to nursing  students and have helped more than 450,000 families through $540,000+ in  financial support to local nonprofit organizations.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The general types of activities conducted by Foundation for Wellness include special conferences, lectures, recurring conferences, study group activities and special seminars. The goal of our CME program is to promote changes in practice methods and improve patient outcomes.

Community Education

The Foundation also sponsors related forums, lectures and educational programs for the community on topics of concern. Current on-going programs include sessions on puberty, birds, bees & STDs, healthy lifestyles and baby-sitter training.

Frem F. Boustany, Jr. MD Memorial Nursing Scholarship

The scholarship is named in memory of one of the founding board members of Foundation for Wellness, a prominent Lafayette citizen and physician, Frem F Boustany Jr, MD. Doctor Boustany passed away in August 1988. The original guidelines were approved and accepted December 20, 1988. The initial scholarship award was made in the Spring 1989.

Grants Programs

Established in 1988, our regional grants program stands as a cornerstone of our mission to promote the health and quality of life for women, children, as well as those that support the family unit.

Through targeted funding, we support organizations dedicated to addressing critical issues such as domestic violence, homelessness, and mental health. Our grants foster initiatives that drive positive change in these areas, reinforcing our commitment to the community.

"While our name has changed, our commitment to our mission remains unchanged. For more than four decades, we have been dedicated to fostering the total well-being of women and their families. This transition to Foundation for Wellness represents our renewed dedication to enhancing the lives of women and families throughout Acadiana."
